No class this Monday 9/6 for kids and adults in observance of Labor Day.

Sample of my butterfly guard gameplan.
I wanted to continue our grappling gameplan articles. Above I posted a sample of part of my butterfly guard gameplan using the freemind mind map program I posted in the previous article. I started by mapping a circle with butterfly guard written in it. I then chose different butterfly guard postures and mapped out different moves and submissions from each of these postures. I then added colors to separate sweeps from submissions, from opponents movements, and so on. Basic postures and positions are in black, submissions are in red, sweeps are in purple, opponents movements are in blue and new positions are in green. When making a map don’t look through tons of books and just put as many moves as possible into your game. You do not want to be a collector of moves. Instead pick movements you are good at to put into your gameplan. If you see some new moves you would like to add into your game then put them in with some stars before them or some type of image so you know it is not a permanent part. As you try to use this new move take note of whether it works for you. If it is working permanently add it to the gameplan and if it isn’t working then remove it from the plan. This is a great visual way to learn. The next post I will be showing you how to write a gameplan in outline form for those of you who prefer a different method.

I just wanted to throw on a quick update for you guys about the upcoming stuff to create your own grappling gameplan. I am going to start posting this stuff over the next week or so on this page, as well as the bjj corner, and I will probably put some type of link on the main page right hand column. This is going to be some really good stuff so I hope you will all read it and try to use the concepts for yourselves. I would post everything at once but I still have to right some stuff up. For know here is a grappling gameplan worksheet I received from someone else that is pretty awesome and a free program to map out a gameplan like the one I made int he above picture.

Upcoming Team Tournament
We are competing in the next AZ Desert Challenge tournament on September 18. The entrance fee is only $25 and you get to compete in gi and no-gi. Also if there are not many guys in your division you could be given double elimination rounds. This will be a great first tournament to build experience since it is inexpensive and you’re guaranteed 2-4 matches even if you lose them all. At this point we have many adults I feel are ready to try a competition and test out all the things we’ve been learning. If you are interested in competing please let me know. For more information on the location, weight classes, and rules check out the tournament website at http://www.azdesertchallenge.com/. I also have the weight classes posted on the wall in our studio. Also this next month’s practices leading up to the tournament will be focused on building tournament gameplan so everyone is ready to compete.
Gi Money
I did a gi run this weekend for all the people who ordered gi’s through me. Many of the kids still need gi’s and some of the adults also still need them. If you need a gi get me your money this week and I’ll go up on Saturday 8/28 to pick them up. The cost is $65 for a white gi and $75 for a blue or black gi.
Kids Classes
Kids classes are going very well. This first week we already had 14 kids come and check out classes. I can tell you we are going to grow fast and will produce some pretty good bjj competitors so if your looking for a place to train bjj in the Goodyear/Litchfield Park area come check us out.

Sorry guys but we will not have BJJ class this Saturday 8/21 because Master Morrissette is running his Tae Kwon Do tournament for his guys . We’ll just have to train extra hard this Friday to make up for it.

Today our kids classes started up. We had 10 kids show up for our first class and about 10 more that plan to stop in at some point this week. We are looking strong and have a lot of really great children in the class. These are classes where ego is checked at the door and everyone is there to have fun and learn. Remember we are giving everyone a week trial to see if they like the class. If you have friends that are interested invite them to try class with you. The bigger the group the more fun our classes will be and the stronger our team will be at competitions. I meant to bring a camera today but it completely slipped my mind. I will do my best to remember a camera for tomorrow so I can get some pictures to post on the site.
We are also looking to get some shirts made at this point. I don’t have a set company doing it yet but as soon as I have this worked out I will let everyone know and I will put up a picture and pricing on the site.
Biggest Loser Bootcamp
I have had a few tell me they were interested in the biggest loser fitness bootcamp but could not make it 5:30 am Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. I could possible move this around and change the time a bit. I just need to know what time would work for anyone interested. I could move the class to start at 5:00am if that would allow you to get your workout in and still get to work on time. Please let me know what your schedules are like so we can make adjustments and get this started up.
